Countdown to the Kite Regatta “King of the Gulf 2015“!
The Kitesurf Regatta will be from Cagliari to Villasimius: it will start from the beach of Poetto and will end to the beach of Campulongu in Villasimius.
The Regatta, scheduled for next June 20, 2015, will bring together a large number of sea and kitesurfing lovers.
Kitesurfig is a sport that draws its origins from the legendary surf the wave, and blends of ‘ wave to the wind through the kite and that over the years has evolved radically, combining tricks and extreme sports boards like surfing, wakeboarding, skateboarding and snowboarding.
Participants in the Kite Regatta “King of the Gulf” (Re del Golfo), have to cover downwind a distance of aroud 15.5 nautical miles (equivalent about 29 Km).
“In the calendar of Zone III FIV has been confirmed two kitesurf races: the race “King of the Gulf” from Cagliari to Villasimius and the” Memorial Marcello”. To all participants of the “King of the Gulf'”, an event which we repeat after more than 11 years since the first edition in 2004, I tell to train. “It will be a day dedicated to the Kitesurf, where professionals, passionate and curious can ask questions and share tips and ideas about this adrenalinic sport ‘ says Lucas Rey, born in Villasimius with some friends and brothers, has founded KiteGeneration: “We founded KiteGeneration to spread the kite and attract tourists by offering them services that our island is lacking. Sardinia has the same potential of Canary islands, has an important history, nature and a beautiful sea, the weather enviable. There is great demand by tourists who like to travel enjoyng sport and nature. .What is missing in our Island? Regarding the kitesurfing there is lack of kitesurfing areas, kitesurfing in the summer season is very hard. The politician should approve some of the kite proposals to istall kite areas. In general, there is a total absence of transportation planning to and from Sardinia, prices are often inaccessible for flights and boats. We hope that events such as the “King of the Gulf” can show the true potential of kitesurfing”.

“Because the hard conditions, with more than 15 miles to ride go with offshore wind, kiters who will partecipate to the “King of the Gulf 2015” should be “advanced”, should have an insurance policy, a flotation jacket and a waterproof bag with mobile”, says Matias Rey, who adds “would be preferable to use a Surf board, that in case of problems can provides good flotation”.
