About 20 minutes from Cagliari, La Maddalena spiaggia spiaggia is better known by kitesurfers as Petrol Beach, due to the fact that is located in the middle between 2 oil&gas areas. Despite the name of Petrol Beach, the beach of La Maddalena Spiaggia is clean and the water of the sea is clear.
Even if the Scirocco could blow well when strong, the best wind at Petrol Beach is the thermal wind (sea breeze) coming side shore with an intensity of about 10-20 knots during the hot and sunny days (usually from May to September). the wind of Mistral (wind from North west) is off-shore and gusty, so not good in this kite-spot.
To the left and right of Petrol Beach, there are other beaches less crowded where the thermic wind works well at the same way: also these beaches are great kite-spots.
Sometimes can be on the water many seaweed (seaweed is synonymous with clean water) that can can be annoying especially for beginners.
At La Maddalena Spiaggia there is a parking, suitable also for campers and motorhomes, and during the summer season there are several several services and facilities like the kitezone and kiosks.
During the summer, in sthe sunny and hot days, when there are not other weather disturbances, Petrol Beach is the only kite-spot where kitesurfing is guarantee.
