Istanbul 2014 Formula Kite Worlds: Final day of Races – 23 August 2014
Summary of 22 August

Olly Bridge standing with his board on the beach and waiting for his kite! It is the strong image of yesterday.
To understand why Olly Bridge was without his kite losing the title, let’s have a step back. The Bridge family has registered only one kite of 18m. The group of women is just before the Gold group. Markus, the race director, announced that the races succeed every 30 minutes. Steph Bridge decided to get the 18 m, thinking she would have time to give back it to his son before the gold race start. But in the last upwind, the wind dies and women have great difficultyto finish the race and they needed more than 30 minutes. When she arrives on the beach and she understood that at this time Olly lost the title of world champion, she break down in tears.
Olly will be unable to start and no more races because no wind. Olly will be not the world champion but he can finish second.
Maxime Nocher is now in the first position with 14 points ahead of second Riccardo Leccese, 15 on the third Blazej Ozog and 20 of Olly Bridge in fourth. Mario Calbucci in sixth, Andrea Beverino ninth! Maxime Nocher has just to control his competitors to be the new Formula Kite world champion.
In the Pink Flight, Elena Kalinina won the only race of the day validated. Steph Bridge is still ahead of Erika Heineken and Elena. The title will be played tomorrow between these three competitors.

A drama for the bridge family !!
Gold race n°4 started without Olly Bridge ! Steph Bridge used his 18m² and she was still on the water at the moment of start of Gold Race n.4
Olly started with sominutes late and didn’t finish the race!
Perhaps Olly and Steph Bridge have lost their title here!

Istanbul 2014 Formula Kite Worlds: Second day of Races – 20 August 2014
Today, the 66 riders of Istanbul 2014 Formula Kite Worlds, 52 men and 14 women, have been divided in the following 3 flights:
- Pink fleet, Women (Elena Kalinina, Erika Heineken, Steph Bridge, Anastasia Akopova, Katja Roose, Aga Grysmzka, Astrid Bers, etc );
- Yellow fleet (Florian Gruber, Alejandro Climent Hernandez, Blazej Ozog, Maxime Nocher, Andrea Beverino, Marvin Baumeister- Schoenian, Tomek Janiak, Ivan Doronin,
etc…); - Green fleet (Riccardo Leccese, Oliver Bridge, FLORIAN TRITTEL, Julien Kerneur, Maks Zakowski, Jhon Mora, etc…).
First Race will be at 12:00 (Istanbul time), Yellow Flight. We have light wind (around 10 knots).
Summary of Day-2
The Bridges strike back on day 2 of the 2014 Formula Kite World Championships before the Final Series starts tomorrow.
It was a tight battle today in the womens fleet with Steph Bridge (GBR, North) swapping first places with defending World Champion Erika Heineken (USA, ML/Ozone). Heineken scored three bullets bringing her in 0.7 points striking distance to Bridge, sitting in first now with 12 points.
Still sitting strong in third position is 17 year old Elena Kalinina (RUS, TMV/Elf). Aga Grzymska (POL, ML/Ozone) and Astrid Berz (SUI, ML/Ozone) complete the top 5.
In the mens fleet, 17 year old European Champion Oliver Bridge (GBR, North) scored three bullets to sit in first place, tied in points with defending World Champion Florian Gruber (GER, UC/Ozone). Riccardo Leccese (ITA, ML/Ozone) is close on their heels only 4 points behind, and Maxime Nocher (FRA, North) who proved his lightwind skills today climbing up into 4th position and Blazej Ozog (POL, North) only a few points behind.
Racing continues tomorrow with the final series for the men, when every competitor carries two times his position forward after the qualifying series. The real racing starts now when the top guys battle it out in the gold fleet.
The womens fleet continue their single opening series with another 4 races scheduled.
The forecast is lighter for the next two days, which gives the light wind specialists a chance to catch up after racing in stronger breeze for the past two days. The wind prediction for the medal series day on Saturday still looks strong, which means that the 2014 world titles are wide open.

Istanbul 2014 Formula Kite Worlds: First day of Races – 19 August 2014

The 66 riders of Istanbul 2014 Formula Kite Worlds, 52 men and 14 women, have been divided in the following 3 fleets:
- Pink fleet, Women (Elena Kalinina, Erika Heineken, Steph Bridge);
- Yellow fleet (Andrea Beverino, Max Nocher, Maks Zakowski, Florian Trittel, Alejandro Hernandez, Florian Grûber etc…);
- Green fleet (Riccardo Leccese, Thomek Janiak, Julien Kerneur, Axel Mazella, Olly Bridge, etc…).
Florian Gruber (GER, UC/Ozone) and Riccardo Leccese (ITA, ML/Ozone) top the leaderboard at the 2014 Formula Kite World Championships at Burc Beach, Istanbul/Turkey. In the womens fleet it is a neck-on-neck battle between Steph Bridge (GBR, North), Elena Kalinina (RUS, TMV/ELF) and Erika Heineken (USA, ML/Ozone).
The first day of competition kicked off in challenging conditions with 18-20 knots of wind and heavy swell left over from yesterdays storm. After some delays due to the sea conditions (some waves), first race started at around 10:20 am.
Gruber and Leccese dominated their respective flights with three bullets each. 17 year old European Champion Oliver Bridge (GBR,North) gave Leccese a run for his money in the green flight, with several lead changes in every race and a solid 2-2-2-1 result in the end. Alejandro Climent (ESP, UC/Ozone) and Blazej Ozog (POL, North) both showed a consistend performance to complete the top five.
The strong womens fleet saw a battle between Bridge, Kalinina and defending world champion Heineken with three different winners in four races, with Aga Grzymska (POL, ML/Ozone) showing a consistant performance for fourth place and 16 year old runner-up Anastasia Akopova (RUS, ML/Ozone) coming in fifth position.
